This means that only a maximum of 80g of nitrogen oxides per 100km may be emitted. To meet these requirements, the AdBlue urea solution was developed as a diesel additive. What to consider when buying AdBlue?

The AdBlue urea is a registered trademark and is transferred as a license to the producing manufacturers. Only those companies that have successfully passed various testing and quality assurance procedures and meet the prescribed storage and logistics requirements are allowed to label their urea solutions with the AdBlue brand. Therefore, look for the appropriate label when you buy AdBlue. Only with it can your vehicle achieve the greatest possible performance with the least environmental impact.

Here you will find only certified suppliers of AdBlue Urea. You can choose from the following brand manufacturers:

• Alpine: is the brand of Mitan Mineralöl GmbH, based in Germany, and a specialist in, among other things, fuels and additives
• Kruse Automotive: is a 100% subsidiary of the Stockmeier Group and specialist for AdBlue urea solutions

Both brands offer their products directly with filler necks. AdBlue is also now available at some service stations, but one is not always available at the right time. Therefore, it is recommended to have at least a 5l canister handy for refilling.

The AdBlue urea solution is considered to be non-hazardous because it has the following properties:

• Non-explosive
• Environmentally friendly
• Biodegradable
• Water soluble
• Colorless

Thus, the AdBlue can be stored after the purchase cool and dry even longer. If you want to buy AdBlue, a look at the owner's manual of the vehicle shows what amount the additive tank holds and where it is located. So you can quickly determine the required amount plus reserve.

What should I pay attention to when refilling AdBlue?

The consumption of AdBlue is on average 5% of diesel consumption. A warning light in the cockpit gives a warning when the urea solution is nearing the end. Then you still have about 2,000 kilometers of range. However, you should not exhaust this, but promptly refill the AdBlue. If you run out of AdBlue while driving, the engine switches to an emergency driving mode and reduces power. Restarting the engine without AdBlue is impossible, because the legislator has installed a so-called environmental immobilizer, because the exhaust gas purification is no longer active. At least 5 liters of AdBlue are then required before the engine starts again.

As soon as the AdBlue tank has been filled, the ignition is switched on and the current fill level is detected by the on-board computer and the warning message goes out. The engine can then be started as usual. Checking the fill level can take a few minutes on some vehicles.

When refilling AdBlue, the following must be observed:

• Avoid contact with eyes, respiratory tract and skin, as irritation may occur
• Wipe off the AdBlue immediately if it comes into contact with the car paint, as the urine solution attacks the paint
• Never pour the AdBlue into the fuel tank or the other way around, as it can cause damage to the engine
• Do not fill the AdBlue into canisters used elsewhere, as the urea solution may lose its effect
